Almost all of us are on Facebook. Our lives are just incomplete if we don’t check our Facebook profile at least once daily. And if you have the Facebook app on your iPhone, I’m sure you check it more than 5 times a day. Facebook for iPhone was launched in 2008, and this is what appeared in a post on the Facebook blog (by Joe Hewitt):
Last August we launched our Facebook iPhone website, and almost a year later it has over 1.5 million people using it regularly. We are thrilled to see so many enjoying Facebook on their iPhones, so we’ve been working on ways to take our iPhone experience to the next level. Today, Apple has opened the doors to its App Store which features a new application we’ve created: Facebook for iPhone.
You’re probably wondering what makes our iPhone application different from our iPhone website. The bottom line is that applications built for the iPhone have access to more technology than websites. For example, with the native application you can take photos with the iPhone’s camera and upload them instantly to your Mobile Uploads album on Facebook. You’ll also find the native application is much faster than the website, giving you more reliable access to your Friends, Photos, and Inbox.”
And he was right. The iPhone Facebook app is a lot of fun.
Here are some tips to make your experience even funner. Try these iPhone tips for your Facebook app. I’m sure you’ll love them.
Change the Cover Photo
Change your cover photo right from the Facebook app. Go to your profile and hit the camera icon (it would be at bottom right of the cover image). Now you can either take a new picture, or choose one from the camera roll.
Customize Favorites
Now you can mark third party apps and other Facebook features as your favorites. These favorites are displayed near the menu screen at the top, so you can access them easily and use them whenever you want. To add/edit your favorites, visit the menu screen (just press the rectangular icon that has three white lines). Now scroll down till you reach the bottom. Done? Now tap on ‘Edit Favorites’. To add a favorite, tap on the ‘+’ icon, and add apps, pages, groups, or lists.
Favorite Friends
There are some iPhone tips for adding your favorite friends as well. The easiest one is to follow the instructions for the previous tip, and when you tap the ‘+’ icon, select the ‘Add Friend’ option.
Delete Posts
Many people don’t know how to delete their posts using the iPhone app, but it’s actually very easy. To delete anything from Facebook, swipe your finger from left to right across that content. Now look at the top right of that content, and you will see a black cross. Tap on it and you can delete the content if it was posted by you, else you can hide it from the Timeline.
Friend’s Birthdays
Facebook app does not flag your friends’ birthdays like the site does. But you can still see their birthdays. Go to main menu and select ‘Events’. You can now see birthdays for today, tomorrow, and the entire week. Now tap on the link that says ‘Birthdays’. It will be on the screen bottom. This will give you the entire birthday list.
Put Facebook in Dock
If you are a regular Facebooker, it’s best to put the app on your dock, so you can open it easily. For this, you’ll have to remove an app first. Press any app for a few seconds and all icons will start quivering. Now drag the unnecessary app out of the dock, and drop the Facebook app there.
Manage Alerts
Now you can customize and select the alerts that you want to appear on Facebook. Or you can just stop all the alerts from appearing. Go to the ‘Settings’ menu and tap on ‘Notifications’. Now select ‘Notification Center’, and then ‘Facebook’. Here you can select the kind of alerts you want. You can even manage alert sounds from this menu.
Contact Syncing
One of the best Facebook iPhone tips would be regarding syncing your contacts. Enable the app to let you transfer info from Facebook to your phone. This includes your friends’ photos as well. To activate it, go to main menu and select ‘Friends’ option. Now tap the top right icon (the one that looks like an arrow). Now tap ‘Sync Contacts’ and that’s it- your contacts will get synced.
